Blog #3 Supreme Court

                                             The Supreme Court

If I were to write this post before watching the videos on the supreme court I would have absolutely nothing to tell you. Maybe a few facts like they take charge in making rules and passing trials and problems but the things I just learned are beyond my knowledge about the supreme court im glad im now educated on the supreme court because I never truly knew how important they are and how serious they take their role in being a part of the supreme court.

How have the videos changed my point of view on the supreme court?

I used to think the supreme court was a bunch of strict white men passing new rules on stupid things the world didn't really need. But the way these videos changed my view on the supreme court was how the justices at the time were explaining how important their job is and how much they like doing what they do and how all of the justices have respect for one another even if they aren't on the same page at the end of the day they respect each other's opinions. I always saw them as mean and not understanding one another due to different views on certain topics, but their respect for one another really made my view change about the supreme court. Before each oral argument, each justice shakes one another's hand before a debate which again is a great representation of respect that I like to see in politics specifically.

What did I learn about the supreme court that I didn't already know?

I actually truly learned a lot which im glad I did because I had zero knowledge of the supreme court. I learned that the supreme court interprets a 200-year-old constitution to safeguard liberty, preserve the union, and uphold the rule of law. (Which was found in the video) I know that should be common logic, but the way the video was worded just clicked in my brain better about understanding what the supreme court was. Another thing I learned was that the supreme court receives more than a hundred new cases every week and that's about 7,000 new cases a year, which is an extreme overload of work to me. That is insane that get this many numbers of cases but it takes so long to even go over them or even talk about them because they have so much other work to do. The last thing I learned that should be common knowledge is that many people called the 14th amendment the second bill of rights. I truly never knew this but now I do because I remember talking about it in class and I always wondered why people called it the second bill of rights and now I do.

What was the most surprising thing I learned?

The most surprising thing I learned was that in order to solve problems people have to send in a problem and then the supreme court goes over that problem eventually. I always thought that the supreme court could solve problems in the U.S. without having to hear from the people first. In my opinion, it is really good to hear from the people first about a problem rather than letting a whole group try and figure out a problem by themselves without first hearing about it from the public. Another surprising thing I learned was that when working for the supreme court can be a very intense first 3 years working there, and then I found out that you'll be working there for 16 years which is mind-blowing to me, imagine being in charge of problems for 16 years. I would simply stress out every single day of my life until those 16 years were up.  Lastly, another surprising thing I learned was that one of the justices came up with this system and it was simply that in order to talk again during a debate or argument everyone has to speak once for that person to again speak again. This is a really good way to hear other people's opinions before voicing your own again it gives people time to see what side they are on.

The most important takeaway!!!

The most important takeaway point about the supreme court is that they are in charge of a lot of things and have busy days and are very confident people to be able to stand up and have an argument with lots of different people having different views, which can be challenging at time but they find a way to make it work and they love what they do. I will never underestimate the supreme court ever again now learning what they do and will have to do for a very long time made me gain a lot of respect for what they do for a living and im glad we have a supreme court to go over the world problems we were facing every single day.

Blog Post #2 Privacy

                                Privacy

When using our devices we don't realize that we are being watched and our data is being tracked and traced when buying items or posting things or even looking something up on the internet. This information even follows us on the apps on our phones. This is crazy to think about how the private information on our phones isn't really private after all.

Digital Footprint                                                                                                                                                                      Your digital footprint is a record of your online activity. It shows everything you've posted or said and continues to grow when you post and when you don't know that the websites or apps you are using can track your activity without you even knowing.
Which include websites you visit, emails you send, and information you submit to online surveys. There are two types of digital footprints. Active digital footprints are all the data you are posting and well aware that you are posting. When posting things people really need to be careful about what they post because that information is like a tattoo it stays with you all of your life so be extra careful, as learned about in the Ted talk video about digital footprints. The other type of digital footprint is passive digital footprint which is data being collected or posted without the person even knowing.  Digital footprinting doesn't affect me much because I watch what I post but some of my friends just post whatever they want without a care in the world. All my social media accounts are private because I don't want just anyone looking at them which makes me feel a little bit more protected in a way.

Siri and Alexa-
We rely so much on technology every day but I never knew how dangerous technology was until after watching the Ted Talks in class. What worries me about people using technology is they don't know what they are doing in the first place on their phones but another thing is they do not know their information is being taken away from them and that is scary. As technology continues to expand and develop new devices these companies have unlimited access to information. For example, Siri and Alexa are huge devices that people use all over its a very popular device. People talk to them and they answer any question you ask. What's scary about using Siri and Alexa is that you don't have to say their name to get them to listen to you they can listen to your conversation without even saying anything. These devices can so much information by just existing on your kitchen table listening in on what you are saying. This really scares me for families and older people when they don't really have an idea about technology and how dangerous it can be and if the government is involved or not.

What should the government do about these issues?

The government should not be able to listen in to our conversations or track where we go, for instance in a TedTalk police were able to take pictures of people's license plates and track where they go throughout the day. In my opinion, there is no need to track people unless they are a criminal. It is beyond an invasion and privacy and also very creepy to have people spy on you. The government should honestly mind their business and worry about something else I don't like how they have information through our devices to try and catch us doing something or just having our information in the first place creeps me out. I know the government won't do anything about this because they depend on these brands of technology to figure out what's going on in the world and to make money.

What can we do to protect ourselves from an invasion of our own privacy?

Things we can do to protect ourselves is to really be careful about what we post and display to people about ourselves really has a big role in protecting our own privacy. If you don't want people to find out about something then simply don't post it because it'll come back to haunt you. Another way to protect ourselves is to use apps like Call, Text, or Facetime because no one can listen in to those conversations or read them. Lastly, another way to protect ourselves is to really pay attention to those privacy settings and actually read them so you know if your information is being scanned or used to hack you.

Blog Post #1: Top 5 News Sources

When it comes to the news, I usually hear about it from my parents or watch the news occasionally with my parents since it's always on in my household. I usually don't go out of my way to look at the news or read about it unless it is super important and a lot of people are talking about it or its news that interests my personal interests like celebrity news or sports news. Im a huge fan of reading celebrity drama and anything sports-related happening in the world.

TikTok is one of the sources I use daily to learn what's happening in the world or just to relax and watch funny videos. TikTok is a great source for my personal interests, including fashion, makeup, and celebrity drama. It is so simple to find information by just searching it up and watching many different videos on a topic you want to learn more about. TikTok also has a feature where it shows you videos of your personal interests called a for you page, so my whole page is filled with fashion and celebrity news. But TikTok doesn't just have fashion and celebrity news they have everything you want to learn more about or read about like politics, sports, food and so much more. I love watching makeup reviews or book reviews which is a great video source to have when trying to find good makeup or a good book to see if it's worth buying which is super helpful.

I have an iPhone which automatically has Apple News on it. Every day probably 10 times a day I receive a news update notification on basically everything happening during the day or updates on current events. Anything from politics to celebrities dying to nutrition and so much more. I'll be in class and see the little news notification pop up and read the first sentence and instantly im wanting to keep reading it's so interesting. This is why I believe apple news is such a wonderful source it grabs people's attention and wants them to read more and, then they become educated. You don't have to wait to get a notification on your phone to read the news, you can go on the app and read up on what's going on in the world or whatever interests you. They have lots to choose from including top stories going on around the world and in the U.S. which is super useful instead of manually having to look up news.

Time Magazine has been one of my favorite sources ever since I was a teen I begged my mom to buy these magazines so I could read up on everything the world was going through. It had so much information on everything you could possibly think of. Time magazine has such a variety of what they publish from the images above I show you 3 of the different types of articles they publish and talk about. All are so different but yet they are all so empowering to read. When I would read Time magazine I felt so educated after reading an article in the magazine. I just loved how they would write it inspired me so much as a journalism major. The information written in these magazines I believe is a reliable source coming from beyond amazing writers. I think this magazine educates people on what the world is going through altogether and what people want to read the most.

Daily Mail is one of my favorite sources which I know isn't a good reliable source but I love reading it every day. When I wake up this is the first thing I read which happens to appear on my Snapchat so it's super easy to find in the discover tab. It contains celebrity drama, upcoming award ceremony winners and how it went, fashion, actual news, and politics as well. This source is mainly just for my interests but if you like reading about the drama going on in the world this is the source for you. One thing I really love about Daily Mail is that it updates every day and has about 20 different articles to read about that can either appear on your Snapchat or by going to the Daily Mail website. I find it super cool that it's a fun daily read I can participate in and enjoy reading. Going back to when I said some things aren't very reliable this refers to some of the celebrity articles from TMZ being posted in Daily Mail which TMZ isn't a good source to read about celebrities, it's most likely to be not true. I still love to read it though. I would say the politics and current events in Daily Mail are reliable information because it is top news going on and happening currently so lots of sources are talking about the same thing.

Fox News is one of my top sources due to growing up watching it with my parents it just stuck with me and I enjoy listening to and watching it. Fox News is known as a more conservative news channel than the rest so I would say it fits my beliefs as well as my family's so we tend to watch it more than the other news channels. In my opinion, I think Fox News is more straight up with their news than others just by the way they deliver their news which is another reason why I like Fox News. Fox News provides news from all over and top stories that have everyone talking and wanting to know more. But overall Fox News provides daily updates on the world and you get other broadcasters' opinions about what's going on which is why I like this news channel more. I like that they give their own opinions on current events. Fox News is a great source for weather, politics, and current events happening today.
